Grant helping Provo buy CNG garbage trucks

PROVO -- A U.S. Department of Energy's grant of $14.9 million to the Utah Clean Cities Coalition's Clean Cities Transportation Sector Petroleum Reduction Technologies Program will help Provo City acquire three new compressed natural gas (CNG) garbage trucks.
The grant will pay the difference between the cost of new diesel garbage trucks and new CNG garbage trucks, about $50,000 each. Provo City was already planning on acquiring new diesel garbage trucks next year, and the grant will make it possible for the city to acquire new CNG garbage trucks instead.
Provo City is one of the partners involved with the Utah Clean Cities Coalition's Clean Cities Transportation Sector Petroleum Reduction Technologies Program, the purpose of which is to reduce petroleum fuel consumption around the state.
